Getaria Visitor's Center + Gastronomy SOciety

Preserve, adapt, and RE-PURPOSE  (Getaria, Spain)

The Getaria Visitor’s Center and Gastronomy Society is a project which creates new and interactive public spaces and circulations in a valuable site of the town, but at the same time preserves much of the existing conditions of the site. By removing just one of the existing medieval walls on site, the project enables a new passage from the inner area of the town out to the open. The floor plates increases in area by levels, creating a cave-like spacial condition between the building and the church. A triangulated glass facade is then applied on to the side of the project facing the church which reflects many of the the surrounding context such as the church, the passage way and the views to the open.
